Palmetto® St. Augustine Maintenance Guide
Palmetto® St. Augustine Grass Plugs are individual turf plants grown in trays. They are small clumps of grass that can be used to repair damaged areas of lawns, fill in patches of bare soil, trial a new grass type, or even start a new lawn. Grass plugs are relatively inexpensive and easy to plant, and they grow quickly enough that you won’t have to wait long before they look good in your lawn.
Our 72-count plug trays can cover up to 72 square feet when spaced 6–18 inches apart on center. For quicker ground cover, plant each plug closer together. Each plug is 1.25 inches long x 1.25 inches wide x 2 inches tall.
Grass plugs are the perfect solution for filling in bare or damaged spots in your yard or starting a new lawn. Palmetto St. Augustine is known for its emerald-green color, shade tolerance, and disease resistance, ensuring a robust and healthy lawn.

It's important to note that your plugs are living plants. After receiving the package, unpack the plug trays from the box right away. Some slight discoloration from lack of oxygen and sunlight during shipping may occur. Place the trays in a single layer and water the plugs immediately. We recommend planting your grass plugs as soon as possible but don’t worry if you can’t get to them right away, keep them moist until you are ready to plant them. For planting details click here.
Working great
Great instructions and very easy to install. Glad i bought them!
St. Augustine plugs-Very Happy
Received my plugs when I expected them. 25 trays of 72 plugs. The plugs were in great shape. Due to the length of time (over a week) it took me to get them all planted, I kept them in the sun, as directed, and well watered. The plugs have been in the ground for a month now and are showing very good growth. At this point, I am extremely happy with my purchase.
Plugs for bare spots
Plugs arrived in good shape and was able to plant the same day. Have lost a few to the landscapers but most doing good
Healthy, but small
My 72 St. Augustine starts were fully green, but small. I couldn't plant right away due to rain, so kept them moist. I raked the dead thatch away in an area and planted using a bulb digging device istead of a drill. The bigger hole left room for garden center quality soil to be pushed around the little starts with a large pinch of Soil Moist pellets in the bottom. BIG MISTAKE. Those pellets expanded with my innitial heavy waterings and pushed thos starts up, almost totally out of their holes. I had to literall step on each start, pushing them back down, watching excess Moisture pellets squish out the sides of each plant. I did NOT follow the instructions on the pellets' bag to use a half teaspoon in each hole, i used only a big pinch. Immahine what mss would occur with a half teaspoonful! Advice: use a VERY tiny pinch! The starts are doing quite well starting with twice daily watering, now down to once a day after three weeks/ But local landscapers in my region (coastal NC area) are now recommending folks to NOT put down sod (or starts, I immagine) in these continuing drought conditions, to wait until fall.
St Augustine plugs
Thirty day review. I got the starter kit, 144 plugs, auger, Lawnfill, and soil moist. I followed the instruction that came with the kit and the information online. When plugs arrived they were all yellow. But that seems to be normal. I took them out and watered them I put them in ground same day. However at the 30 day mark most are still very yellow. Only about 30 percent seem to be living. Have not mowed any yet. This is my first try at plugs. This may be normal. I will continue to monitor and water them. They don't seem to be growing very high or running.
Great plugs!
Plugs came healthy, once planted they grew. Very happy.
St Aug pods
Absolutely love these! Total game changer.
Palmetto grass plugs
Very satisfied! Plugs growing well at 2 months.
Fast growing!
The St Augustine plugs I received were all alive and usable and have all doubled in size within the first two weeks. So much better than the “big box” plugs of the same species.
