Brazos™ Zoysiagrass

Brazos was collected in 2006 in the Florida Everglades and advanced by the University of Florida’s Turfgrass Breeding Program. It has the leaf texture of a Zoysia japonica in a stand that otherwise resembled fine-bladed Emerald zoysiagrass. The plant was evaluated in Florida and shared with Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, the University of Georgia, and North Carolina State for drought-persistence trials. Entered in the 2013 National Turfgrass Evaluation Program zoysiagrass trial as FAES 1319, it finished as the top experimental entry and remained one of the strongest performers in the 2019 trial, including at colder locations. Sod Solutions commercialized it as Brazos in 2023. The name comes from the Brazos River.
