When soil is too acidic, grass can’t use nutrients efficiently. Espoma Lightning Lime delivers fast-acting dolomitic lime to raise pH + supply Mg/Ca, improving nutrient availability in acidic soils.
Fast-acting lime works in 6–8 weeks
Covers up to 5,000 sq. ft. per bag
Improves fertilizer efficiency
Organic, low-dust pelletized formula
When soil becomes too acidic, grass struggles to absorb nutrients even when fertilization is done correctly. In these conditions, nutrients can remain locked in the soil, leading to poor color, thinning grass and slow recovery. Applying lime helps raise soil pH into a range where nutrients become accessible and lawn care efforts deliver better results.
This product is a fast-acting, organic pelletized lime designed to correct acidic soil more efficiently than traditional limestone. Espoma Organic Lightning Lime is finely pulverized before pelletizing, allowing it to react more quickly once applied.
Lightning Lime raises soil pH faster than standard pelletized lime, typically beginning to adjust pH within 6–8 weeks. Each bag is treated with natural humic acids, which help convert calcium into a more available form and support quicker soil response. As pH improves, nutrients become available and fertilizer works more effectively.
Refer to the product label for full application instructions.
Apply when a soil test confirms acidic soil. Lightning Lime can be applied during most of the growing season when the ground is not frozen and moisture is available to activate the product.
Use a standard drop or broadcast spreader for even coverage. Because of its high effectiveness, less material is needed compared to traditional lime products.
While it supplies calcium as a secondary benefit, its primary role is correcting soil pH. When soil pH is balanced, fertilizer becomes more efficient and lawns grow stronger with less wasted effort. Your main fertility program should still focus on nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, with additional nutrients applied only when soil tests show a deficiency.
If your lawn struggles to green up or respond to fertilizer, acidic soil may be limiting nutrient uptake. When pH is too low, grass can’t efficiently use the nutrients you’re already applying, leading to poor color and uneven growth.
Espoma Organic Lightning Lime corrects acidic soil quickly, raising pH in as little as 6–8 weeks. Its finely processed, low-dust pellets supply calcium and magnesium to unlock nutrients and improve fertilizer efficiency without heavy applications or long wait times.
