How to Fertilize Your Lawn in the Summer

Lawnifi Summer Box Bottle On Outside Deck

Did you know that your lawn’s nutritional needs vary each season as temperatures and soil conditions change? For example, your lawn may require less nitrogen in the summer than it would in the spring when it’s coming out of dormancy and trying to green up. Nitrogen promotes fresh growth, which will not be strong enough to withstand the heat and stress that comes with extreme summer temperatures.

In fact, overfeeding your lawn means extra energy will be required for it to flourish, further stressing your lawn. The wrong fertilizer combined with excess sun exposure during the summer months can easily cause scorched spots in your yard. For this reason, Sod University recommends the Lawnifi® Summer Fertilizer Box, a liquid fertilizer program designed to give lawns the nutrients they need to survive and flourish during the summer.

The Lawnifi Summer Fertilizer Box

The Lawnifi Summer Fertilizer Box is a part of the Annual Fertilizer Subscription, but can be purchased separately as an individual seasonal box. The Summer Fertilizer Box comes with three bottles of liquid fertilizer: one bottle of Maintain and two bottles of Recover. With its 16-0-4 formulation, Maintain works to fortify your lawn with potassium, amino acids and carbon. Use Maintain in the summer for regular feeding for your sod and landscape. To learn more about fertilizer formulations, read How to Read a Fertilizer Label.

Recover was created to provide the optimal balance of nutrients to your lawn as temperatures start to rise and aid your lawn in periods of stress. In addition to nitrogen, Lawnifi Recover delivers critical micronutrients including soluble manganese, iron, sulfur and carbon, which help your lawn get through the dog days of summer. Two bottles of Recover are included in the Summer Fertilizer Box. You can learn more about micronutrients and their critical roles in soil and plant health in Are Micronutrients Missing From Your Lawn Care Program?.

Application Schedule

As previously stated, the Summer Fertilizer Box comes with three individual bottles of liquid fertilizer, each designed to meet your lawn’s needs during the summer months. The first bottle you will want to apply is Lawnifi Maintain. Make the first application of Maintain any time in the first few weeks of summer.

Make an application of Recover four weeks following this initial application of Maintain.

Four weeks following the last application of Recover, make your last application of Recover before beginning your fall fertilizer maintenance program.

Why Lawnifi?

Lawnifi is efficient, effective and easy to use. Powered by Catalyst TechnologyTM, Lawnifi maximizes plant uptake and nutrient availability to help improve soil structure and enhance the growth of microbial populations needed to withstand summer stressors. Catalyst Technology nano-sizes Lawnifi’s nutrients so that more of them are absorbed through the roots and leaves. Since Lawnifi nano-sizes its nutrients, larger amounts of nutrients are delivered to plants. The amount of product that needs to be applied is significantly reduced while using 80 percent less nitrogen and yielding better results. Read Granular vs. Liquid Fertilizers to learn more.

Lawnifi is a lawn fertilizer, but it can also be used on flowers, trees and shrubs. Each easy-to-apply bottle of fertilizer hooks up to the end of your garden hose for an even spray application and covers 5,000 sq. ft. For more information on Lawnifi, read Why Use Lawnifi Fertilizer? or visit Lawnifi.com.

Lawnifi also offers a granular formation, Lawnifi Foundation, for those who prefer traditional fertilizer applications. Lawnifi Foundation is granular fertilizer used for residential lawns and gardens that can be used throughout the different seasons all year long. With a 29-0-5 formulation, Lawnifi Foundation features a slow-release mixture of nitrogen that feeds your plants over a longer duration of time.
